The cartoon that is the Fiscal Cliff... @ 09:04 on Tuesday, December 11, 2012

The cartoon that is the Fiscal Cliff. Much like a Cliff in a Warner Bros. cartoon, all you have to do is not look down and you won't fall off it. But also, the "Fiscal Cliff" is more a political term than it is really the US Economy falling to it's death. Now, I'm no economist, I'm no accountant, and I sure as hell can't do maths gewd. But what I am good at is understanding the bullshit that happens in capitol hill. If the Republicans and Democrats simply don't come to a conclusion, automatic tax hikes will take into effect to protect us from destruction. You won't notice anything till probably the middle of 2013 when it starts to take its weary toll on the public, but mostly all it will be is a payroll deduction. Not a big one... But enough to upset you.
The fiction of the Fiscal Cliff aside... listening to the political news every morning is really starting to twist my balls up. This stand off between the GOP and Democrats is completely unnecessary. The whole, "The GOP would rather save the rich than help the public." vs "Democrats are more willing to sink the ship for their crusade." I'm going to have to side with the Democrats.
Look, Obama won the election. The people voted for his economic plan. The more I look into this, the more I get the feeling the Republicans are simply trying to protect the rich. Yeah, you can say that protecting the rich protects the middle class via the trickle down malarkey. You can also evoke JFK, and say that taxes never generate revenue. I constantly see Republican's comparing the Obama tax hike to taxes on products. For example, Taxing cigarettes are going to force people to stop buying them, or go somewhere else to buy them, which will in turn cause a drop in revenue. That is a horrible and inaccurate analogy. Yes, Obama is taxing people who make more than 250,000 a year, but guess what, "98 percent of American families don't make that much money" AND there are tax cuts available for them to even things some things out. Simple things like swapping to double pan gas windows, and green vehicle use/parking, promoting health in the work place, and other random shit you can write off and save money. Not only is it going to make for healthy employees who don't need to suck up medicare costs, it's also going to make for a more productive company.
So raising taxes on the 250,000k/yr earners is going to destroy out economy right? Sure, lets assume so. That aside, that's not what the people voted for. Besides, I don't think anyone believes in reaganomics anymore. Obama wants to tax the rich more, and the GOP wants to cut spending. According to Boehner, the negotiations are "ridiculous" and Obama hasn't been "serious". Look Boehner, Obama even straight forward said, "Tell me what you want!". In other words, what program spending do you want to cut? Their answer was nothing, or rather, a cough and grumble. They have no idea what programs they want to cut. Cutting programs is a sensitive issue they don't want to touch, and don't know how to handle. They don't have a fucking plan. All they know is they just don't want to tax the rich, that they want to protect their own. The GOP needs to get their shit together if they are going to be taken seriously ever again. They already have the stereo type of racist and bigots. They want to be blamed for hurting the economy too? Oh wait, they already are. Obama won in a landslide election. The people voted, the people want to tax the rich.
I work for a huge sugar daddy of a company, I'm living comfortably, and I'm grateful. But if taxing companies like mine are going to get us 1.2 trillion dollars vs the 9 billion by cutting government aid programs, just to help get us out of national debt. I say tax the rich. If we go over the fiscal cliff, I'm sure to get a payroll deduction. If the republican's get what they want, and nobody really knows exactly what they want to cut, then I lose whatever government thingy that will be.. It's a maybe lose, lose, and lose situation. I'd rather go with the "maybe lose" rather than the other slightly more negative lose situation.
This whole rant turned into me vomiting out stupid shit about how the GOP is seriously fucking up... but I have a small point. Obama has always seemed to want to be about the greater good, and the Republicans are pushing for harsh realities. But If we don't strive, we'll never get there.
